Landfill Investigation & Closure- San Antonio, TX. Budget: $350,000 Client: WD Enterprises, Inc. c/o Osborne Properties, Inc. Contact: Mr. Bill Osborne- (830) 216-0344 Completion Date: August 2000 Description: In order to register a former K-Mart Store that was built atop a closed municipal landfill with the TCEQ, Enviro-Tech conducted a comprehensive subsurface investigation of the nine-acre site by installing soil borings across the entire property on fifty-foot centers, including interior of building. Each boring was screened for the presence of methane gas with a portable flammable gas detection unit, and the depth of the landfill cover material and depth to the landfill were also measured and recorded. Based upon the results of the investigation, a passive methane venting system was designed and constructed within the footprint of the existing building, and a total of thirty-two portable ?real time? methane gas detection units were installed at various locations within the building as part of the registration process. Enviro-Tech then checked methane gas levels in the building on a quarterly basis for a period of one year as part of the permit application.
